Dr. Douglas Campbell

Dr. Douglas Campbell is Professor of New Testament at the Divinity School at Duke University, where he has co-directed the Prison Program since 2009. He is trained in restorative practices that offer alternatives to predominantly punitive responses to harm and justice. His work explores connections between biblical interpretation, theology, human emotion, and cultural approaches to punishment and incarceration. His main research focus is the theology of the apostle Paul, especially apocalyptic interpretations of salvation in contrast to justification or salvation-history frameworks. He is a leading Pauline scholar and the author of numerous articles and books, including The Deliverance of God: An Apocalyptic Rereading of Justification in Paul and Framing Paul: An Epistolary Biography.
